A stunning Paul Young goal with nine minutes remaining paved the way for Loup's victory over Down champions Kilcoo in yesterday's Ulster club football semi-final at Casement Park. Loup1-12 Kilcoo..1-11 Young's major, which he scored off his weaker left foot, levelled the game at 1-10 apiece before Paul McFlynn (free) and Paul McVey added points for the Derry kingpins to push them 1-12 to 1-10 in front. Paul Delvin pulled back a point for Kilcoo in injury-time, but it wasn't enough to stop Loup from setting up a repeat of the 2003 Ulster final against St. Gall's. Kilcoo were the better side in the first half and should have been more than 0-7 to 0-4 in front at the break. They suffered a big blow in the 26th minute when midfielder Martin McClean was sent off on a second yellow card for a high tackle on Paul McFlynn. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Kilcoo maintained their four-point lead after the restart, 1-8 to 0-7, thanks to Donal Kane's goal. But the Loup refused to wilt and after Young had left three points in it, the Derry panellist fired an unstoppable shot past Stephen Kane to bring them level. Deep in injury-time, the Down side felt they should have had a free on the '21 for a pull on Conor Laverty, but it went unpunished and Loup progressed to their second ever Ulster final.
