Lowry slams Connor treatment

Offaly's Richie Connor
Offaly legend Sean Lowry has launched a stinging attack on the county's footballers over Richie Connor's enforced departure as manager after just one National League game this year. Lowry, who starred alongside Connor on the Offaly team that famously thwarted Kerry's All-Ireland five-in-a-row bid in 1982, was on the selection panel that appointed the Walsh Island man ahead of his short-lived stint in the Faithful County hot-seat. Now, in an interview with the Edenderry GAA website, Lowry blasted: "It was just outrageous. You wouldn't treat a dog like that. "Players that were giving out about him are not good enough and if you are not good enough, it doesn't matter what manager you have. It was just ridiculous. He only got one league game. "If they had a problem with Richie Connor, they should have sat down with him, just three or four of the more senior players. Tell him what they think is going wrong." The three-time All-Ireland winner, who also played for Mayo, claimed some of the current Offaly players are not "fit to lace" the 1982 All-Ireland winning captain's boots. "I don't even rate them as footballers. Maybe Richie was too honest with them lads in telling them they were no longer good enough. "These are not county standard players and they're dictating to Richie Connor? They wouldn't lace his boots."
