Carr won't resign
July 29, 2009
Tommy Carr is refusing to resign as Cavan football manager because he claims he has the backing of the players.
The former Dublin and Roscommon boss admitted yesterday that he fully expected to be out of a job following Monday night's county board meeting. And while a motion of no confidence was proposed and seconded, delegates argued successfully that they should be given time to consult with their clubs, resulting in Carr being given a stay of execution until next Tuesday.
"The secretary (Liam McCabe) explained to me that I should step down, that it would be better for all, such was the negativity towards me and the management team in the county," he said.
"The only reason I didn't, I suppose, is pure stubbornness, number one, but also because I had the support of the players, who asked me not to resign, and the backing of the chairman. So I just don't know where it stands at the moment."
