Wexford mourns Michael Collins
June 14, 2009
Wexford GAA is mourning the passing of former hurling captain Michael Collins, who has died following a short illness.
Collins was Wexford's full back and captain when they lost the 1970 All-Ireland final to Cork. He achieved club success with Enniscorthy Shamrocks, winning county senior hurling titles in 1964 and '69 when they defeated Faythe Harriers and Ferns respectively.
He later served as chairman of the Rapparees hurling club in Enniscorthy.
A minute's silence was observed as a mark of respect before last night's Leinster SFC quarter-final between Wexford and Kildare in Carlow.
