McEnaney rubbishes Brolly criticism

Seamus McEnaney
Seamus McEnaney has strongly refuted claims by TV pundit Joe Brolly that Monaghan are an unattractive team to watch. Brolly said he was "delighted" that Monaghan were out of the Ulster SFC following their defeat to Derry on Sunday because they "make every game miserable". The former Oak Leaf forward also insisted that football "can't be entertaining against them" and compared Monaghan's tactics to Fermanagh, who are renowned for the defensive game they employ. But McEnaney hit back at Brolly's criticism by pointing out that Monaghan have been involved in some classic contests in recent years. "I wouldn't accept that at all," the Farney County manager said. "I think Monaghan have been involved in some of the best games of football that have been played over the last two or three years. "For example, the Monaghan/Kerry matches, Monaghan/Donegal (last year), the Monaghan/Down match in 2007, the Monaghan/Derry match (2007) - Derry mightn't think it was a good match but Monaghan played some very good football in it. "There's pundits out there paid to do a job and I have no problem with Joe Brolly being paid for his opinion, or the likes of him making money on the back of us."
