Banville in the clear

Wexford's Stephen Banville
Wexford full forward Stephen Banville has been cleared to play in Saturday week's Leinster SHC quarter-final against Offaly after a successful appeal against a proposed four-week ban. The suspension had been recommended by the Central Competitions Control Committee arising out of an incident involving Offaly's Kevin Brady during last month's NHL Division 2 final in Thurles. Banville was not sent off in that game, but the CCCC had proposed a ban after looking at the report of referee Ger Hoey and at video evidence. The ban would have resulted in Banville missing the eagerly-awaited Wexford Park clash, but that won't now happen after his successful appearance before the Central Hearings Committee on Monday night. "It's a boost to everyone now Stephen is available," enthused Wexford chairman Ger Doyle.
