Holders Scotstown survived a remarkable Magherafelt fightback to claim a dramatic 2-21 to 2-20 extra time victory in this afternoon's Ulster club senior football championship quarter-final in Clones.

Shane Carney and Cormac Murphy exchanged first-half goals, with Rory Beggan and Tommy Mallen landing two-pointers to help Scotstown lead 1-10 to 1-6 at the break.

Magherafelt battled back through Murphy, Shane Heavron and Rory Small, with a late Heavron free putting the Derry champions ahead before Nicky Sherlock equalised to force extra time at 1-15 apiece.

The sides remained level at 1-18 after the first of the added periods at St Tiernach's Park, but Mallen's goal early in the second-half looked to have put Scotstown in control.

Further scores from Jack McCarron and Max Maguire left the holders in a strong position, only for substitute Caolan Higgins to grab a late goal and Conall Higgins to add a dramatic two-pointer.

Scotstown held on by the narrowest of margins to keep their title defence alive and set up a semi-final meeting with Donegal champions St Eunan's on November 22nd.
