Clare will be playing their league hurling in Division 1A next season after cementing their fifth consecutive in Division 1B at Carlow’s expense this evening.
It finished 1-28 to 0-18 at Netwatch Cullen Park, where Shane Meehan’s early goal helped to set the tone for the Banner men cruised towards another victory pushes them three points clear at the top of the table.
Meehan’s goal and the points of Mark Rodgers, David Reidy and Diarmuid Stritch helped Brian Lohan’s charges to control the contest in the first-half, as they went at the break leading by 1-18 to 0-8.
Carlow, who came into this contest looking for their second win to move away from the drop zone, tried to stay in touch with second-half points of Chris Nolan, Jack Treacy and Jon Nolan, but couldn’t live up with their Munster counterparts’ intensity.
Rodgers and David Fitzgerald sailed over more points for Clare ahead of Jon Nolan being sent off for the hosts in the 63rd minute and, from there, Fitzgerald, Rodgers and Meehan would round off the visitors’ tally.
In Division 2, Meath joined Laois at the top of the table on six points with a 0-20 to 1-12 win against Mayo in Tooreen, while London’s goals led them to their first win of the campaign as they defeated Derry (3-7 to 0-14) at Celtic Park where Fionn O Riain Brion, Fionn Whelan and Jack Morrissey all found the next for the Exiles.
Roscommon dropped their first point in the race for promotion from Division 3 as they were held by Tyrone at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park where it finished 0-19 to 1-16, while Leitrim edged out Cavan by 0-20 to 0-17 in the Division 4 derby in Carrick-on-Shannon for their third win and Longford comfortably saw off Lancashire by 3-18 to 0-12 in Abbotstown to move up to six points in the table.
