Galway bounced back from last weekend’s disappointing loss to Kilkenny by handing Offaly a 2-25 to 1-14 defeat in Tullamore this evening to get up and running in the Leinster senior hurling championship.
After Killian Sampson’s goal two minutes in made for promising early signs for the hosts, it was the Tribesmen that took over from the moment Cathal Mannion’s eighth minute goal fired them 1-5 to 1-2 in front.
The points of David Burke, Colm Molloy, Mannion and Brian Concannon saw Galway increase their lead to seven and they’d goal again through Mannion in the 33rd minute to take in a 2-14 to 1-9 lead at the interval.
Before the second-half throw-in both Daithi Burke and manager Micheál Donoghue were red-carded following an altercation which took place after the half-time whistle, but it didn’t disrupt Galway’s momentum as they kept the points flowing.
Mannion, TJ Brennan and Concannon helped raise their tally to 2-20 by the 53rd minute, while Offaly were held to just six points for the entire second-half as Dan Ravenhill and Adam Screeney (2) grabbed what proved consulation scores for them in the closing 20 minutes.
