Castletown Liam Mellows returned to the summit of Wexford club football this afternoon by seeing off Gusserane O'Rahilly's on a 0-9 to 0-6 scoreline in today's SFC final at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The now 13-time champions had to play with 14 men for the entire second-half following the dismissal of corner-forward Jonathan Bealin in the run up to half-time when they led by 0-4 to 0-3.

Mark Rossiter levelled matters for Gusserane O'Rahilly's two minutes into the restart, but their opponents pulled clear thanks to the points of Joe Gardiner, Brendan Halpin and Jack Higgins.

The trailers got back within a point with seven minutes left in normal time prior to Halpin and Gavin Kelly raising the white flags which wrapped up the title for the Liam Mellows club.

There was some late controversy in the Sligo senior football final at Markievicz Park which saw Coolera/Strandhill and St Molaise Gaels finish all square (0-9 to 1-6).

The game was level in the third minute of injury-time when the Gaels had a free to win it but their captain Alan McLoughlin opted for the short pass to Joe Heaney, who fired over, but referee Michael Duffy had blown the final whistle after McLoughlin’s kick.

Jack Davitt had registered a goal three minutes into the second-half that put the Gaels 1-5 to 0-5 in front before Coolera/Strandhill battled back, with Ross Doherty’s 56th minute point ending up being the equaliser which will see the teams meeting in a replay next weekend.

It’ll be a replay in the Fermanagh senior football championship final as well after Enniskillen Gaels and Erne Gaels Belleek finished on 0-8 apiece at Brewster Park this afternoon.

In a repeat of the 2022 decider, the sides were level six times here and it was Erne Gaels that shaded a 0-5 to 0-4 lead at half-time thanks to Aogan Kelm’s point on the half-hour mark.

The points of John Reihill, Callum Jones and Ethan Beresford moved Enniskillen two in front after the turnaround and Declan Bonner’s side fought to get ahead again before Ross Bogue’s ‘45’ proved the last score and ensured that the teams would have to do it all again.

Meanwhile, this afternoon’s Westmeath senior hurling championship final was called off due to weather inclement conditions.

Lough Lene Gaels had led Castletown Geoghegan by 0-2 to 0-0 at TEG Cusack Park when referee Barry Kelly made the decision to call a halt to proceedings as the heavy rain poured down at the Mullingar venue.
