Dolan bemoans hectic schedule

Westmeath manager Dessie Dolan isn’t happy with his team’s gruelling schedule.

The Lake County will be in action for a third successive weekend when they take on Down in the Allianz Football League Division 3 final at Croke Park on Saturday evening. They will then have a quick turnaround to their Leinster SFC first round clash with Wicklow and, if they win that, will face Kildare in the quarter-final the following weekend, meaning they could be playing five weekends in-a-row.

"We’re hoping to get more lads back (from injury), but the schedule is very difficult. Jason Sherlock (coach) is on our bus, I’m not sure he has done five weekends in-a-row possibly and that's what Westmeath could face,” Dolan said after last Sunday’s defeat in Sligo.

"It seems very difficult but the reality is we'll deal with it and we'll get on with it, but this schedule is very difficult in terms of getting lads back from injury.

"We've seen it throughout the year that we just don't have enough time to get them back onto the pitch. The preliminary championship against Wicklow is the following week as well, so it's hectic."
