Kilkenny are through to the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 final after dethroning holders Limerick with a 3-17 to 1-15 victory at Pairc Ui Chaoimh this afternoon.

In an electric at the Cork venue, Derek Lyng’s men erased Aaron Gillane early goal by blasting in majors of their own via Eoin Cody and Luke Hogan in the ninth and 10th minutes, respectively, to surge in front.

From there, the Leinster champions powered towards a 3-6 to 1-6 lead at the break, with TJ Reid netting their third, and the scores of talisman Reid and Adrian Mullen would move them further ahead by 52nd minute.

Meanwhile, the All-Ireland champions wouldn’t register another score from play in the time that remained as the Cats booked a league decider date against either Clare or Tipperary who face each other tomorrow in Portlaoise (4pm).
