Monaghan don’t fear Dublin and they have the track record to prove it, says Dessie Mone.

The long-serving Mone has walked away from inter-county football but he revealed that a lack of confidence was never an issue when they were confronted by the Sky Blue jersey in recent years.

The Farney County will be looking to secure a third league win in-a-row against the five-in-a-row All-Ireland champions when they lock horns in Croke Park this Saturday evening.

“When you win, you gain confidence so when you beat Dublin, you're certainly going to gain confidence in your squad,” the 35-year-old told the Irish Independent.

“I always thought Monaghan had the players and the match-ups for this Dublin team for the last couple of years.

“That's why I would have liked if we'd got through that 2018 All-Ireland semi-final (against Tyrone), it could have been a well-matched up All-Ireland final but that was never to be. We're always confident going in against Dublin though.

“We always felt we had the players and we took great rewards beating Dublin over that period.

“It'll be tight and there's no reason why Monaghan can't be competitive against them again. Picking up two points last weekend was a nice boost to the confidence.”
