Donegal, Tyrone and Antrim picked up wins in the second round of the Dr McKenna Cup today.

In Ballybofey, Donegal overcame the dismissal of Brendan McCole early in the second half to edge out Monaghan by 1-12 to 0-14. With Jack McCarron helping himself to four points, the visitors led by 0-9 to 0-7 at the interval, but a Peadar Morgan goal turned it around for Donegal after the restart.

However, they survived a late scare when Shaun Patton saved a penalty from Shane Carey.

Connall McCann scored the only goal at Healy Park where Tyrone registered a 1-16 to 0-13 victory over Cavan. Despite the dominance of Conn Kilpatrick at midfield, the visitors only led by two points at the break as scores from Martin Reilly and Niall Murray kept Cavan in touch.

But Tyrone reeled off an unanswered 1-4 after the restart to put the result beyond doubt.

Antrim pipped Fermanagh by 2-8 to 0-13 at Ahoghill thanks to a last-gasp goal from Paddy McBride, who also netted early in the second half. Fermanagh twice held commanding leads, but a late rally, which yielded points from McBride, Eunan Walsh and Conor Murray, ensured an exciting finale.
