Tyrone star Cathal McShane is set to for a shock switch to the AFL, according to multiple reports overnight.

Last season saw the 24-year-old winning an All Star off the back of his performances at full-forward for the Red Hands and just last week he’d denied speculation regarding a move Down Under.

However, The Irish News and local site TeamTalkmag.com are both reporting that McShane is believed to be on the brink of signing a two-year deal with Brisbane Lions.

Should the switch be completed, it would be a huge blow to Mickey Harte’s plans for 2020 as the Owen Roes clubman has been their leading attacker inside, hitting 3-48 in last year’s championship to join Kerry’s Sean O’Shea at the top of the scoring charts.

Conor McKenna was a former team-mate of McShane's at minor level and has been plying his trade in the AFL since 2014 with Essendon, while Dublin and Ballyboden man James Madden has been with the Lions for the past 18 months or so.
