Slaughtneil picked up a seventh successive Derry SHC title courtesy of a 1-23 to 2-12 win over Kevin Lynch’s at Owenbeg today.
Cormac O’Doherty was responsible for 0-16 (0-14 from placed balls) of the winners final tally while Brendan Rogers netted their all-important goal in the 53rd minute.
The sides went in level at the break after Odhran McKeever had netted for the Dungiven outfit and Tiarnan McHugh bagged the challenger’s second three pointer straight from the second-half restart.
That left Kevin Lynch’s 2-7 to 0-10 to the good but Slaugthneil refused to press the panic button and O’Doherty’s accuracy from placed balls kept the scoreboard ticking over from their point of view.
Rogers’s goal seven minutes from the end of normal time sent the Chrissy McKaigue captained outfit on the road to a six-point winning margin.
