Connolly-less Donegal Boston suffer defeat

Roscommon captain Ciaran Murtagh, Laois' Gary Walsh, Kerry All-Ireland winner Barry John Keane and Tyrone's Mark Bradley.

They may not have Diarmuid Connolly at their disposal this summer, but Donegal Boston still paraded a star-studded line-up against Connemara Gaels in the Boston SFC yesterday.

Exiled Dublin star Connolly's plans to return to Donegal Boston - with whom he won a Boston SFC medal last year - were scuppered when an issue with his ESTA visa prevented him from travelling Stateside in time for the July 1 transfer deadline. His St Vincent's clubmate Shane Carthy experienced no such problems, though, and formed a strong midfield partnership with Westmeath's Ray Connellan, who recently ended his Aussie Rules career.

The Donegal Boston forward line also contained four big names in former Roscommon captain Ciaran Murtagh, Laois' Gary Walsh, Kerry All-Ireland winner Barry John Keane and Tyrone's Mark Bradley, while Louth's John Bingham started the 13-a-side affair at wing back.

Keane found the net, but Donegal Boston still succumbed to a Connemara Gaels side which featured Clare's Keelan Sexton on a 3-12 to 1-16 scoreline.
