Offaly 1-20
Carlow 1-17
It's not all doom and gloom for Offaly hurling after their U20s made it back-to-back wins in the Leinster U20HC at Carlow's expense in Netwatch Cullen Park.
Cathal Kiely posted 0-10 from frees to give the Faithful County a lift after yesterday's relegation to the Christy Ring Cup. First round winners over Westmeath, Offaly opened up an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead thanks to points from Kiely (free), David Nally ('65) and Cillian Sampson.
But Carlow levelled through scores from Ciaran Whelan (free) and Dean Tobin (two) to restore parity. The sides were level four more times in the first half as they went into the break tied on 0-9 apiece.
The visitors resumed with a goal from John Murphy and a point from Conor Langton before two more Kiely frees extended their lead to six with a quarter of an hour to play.
Whelan pulled a goal back for Carlow to set up a tense finish, but Offaly held on.
