Cavan secured their first win of their Allianz FL Division 1 campaign thanks to an impressive showing against Roscommon in Kingspan Breffni Park today.
Goals from Conor Madden (2) and Martin Reilly were decisive as the Breffni County prevailed on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-13.
From Roscommon’s point of view, the 50th minute sending-off of Ultan Harney left them fighting an uphill battle.
The scoreboard read 2-7 to 0-11 when Harney was shown a red card following an altercation with Ciaran Brady and Mickey Graham’s men made the most of their extra man to run out nine point winners.
Madden’s first goal arrived in first-half stoppage time and parachuted the hosts into a 1-7 to 0-8 lead at the change of ends.
The primrose and blues enjoyed the better of the early second-half changes and regained the lead only to be stopped in their tracks by a second Madden goal.
Following Harney’s dismissal, the home side seized control of proceedings and their efforts were rewarded with a goal for Reilly and their first points of the campaign.
