Fermanagh bared their teeth with a battling 0-8 to 0-6 victory over Kildare at Brewster Park.
The match was in the melting pot after Fergal Conway made it six points apiece when he pointed following an advanced mark with 20 minutes left but a late Ryan Lyons brace – the wing forward on target in the 65th and 73rd minutes - won it for the hosts, with Kildare reduced to 14 men in between as Ben McCormack was shown a second yellow card.
Both teams went into tonight’s game unbeaten and it was Rory Gallagher’s men who led by 0-5 to 0-3 at the break, with Sean Quigley (free), Conall Jones and Ryan Jones on target before Adam Tyrrell posted a brace of Kildare frees. Eoin Donnelly and Conway traded points, Quigley’s second free closing the first-half scoring.
Neil Flynn clipped over two frees either side of Quigley’s third and Conway tied the scores up. After Mark Donnellan denied teenager Ultan Kelm a Fermanagh goal, it was Lyons who won it for the home side with two points in the last five minutes, to give them their first win of the campaign, the visitors registering just one point from play as they fell to their first defeat.
