Rhode’s search for a new manager has finally ended with the appointment of Cork native Ger Glavin to the role.

The locally-based garda inspector takes over from Declan Gorman and Jack Cooney, who led ‘The Village’ to a three-in-a-row of Offaly SFC titles last year. Cooney has since taken charge of Westmeath where Gorman and another former Rhode manager, Paschal Kellaghan, are part of his backroom team.

Glavin, whose home club is Nemo Rangers, is a surprise choice for the Rhode job, having previously been involved with Rahan-parish side Shamrocks and Laois amalgamation Clonaslee Gaels.

Meanwhile, there is speculation locally that Niall McNamee could be about to come out of inter-county retirement. The Rhode talisman was regarded as one of the top forwards in the country before bringing the curtain down on his stellar Offaly career in August 2017.
