Clare’s Tony Kelly saw red in tonight’s Allianz HL Division 1A opener in Thurles but the jury is very much out on whether or not it was the correct call by referee Colm Lyons.
The Banner County finished on the wrong end of the 2-16 to 1-11 scoreline and their talisman’s dismissal in the 44th minute following a challenge on Padraic Maher was a major talking point after the final whistle.
The former ‘Hurler of the Year’ has every right to feed hard done by based on this video evidence…

Tipperary were awesome. Conditions were terrible but they played them well. No denying that. They will be a force this year under liam. Clare will learn loads. BUT Colm Lyons has to look back over his decision. It finished the game.If refs are going be that finicky I'm worried

Unfortunately any contact with the helmet is a straight red pal, Ref's told from Croke Park. Wasn't a red card but it was going by the new rule

TweetColm Lyons strikes again. Disgraceful decision to send Tony Kelly off earlier. Accidental clash of heads. He’s the most consistent referee in the GAA. Pity it’s not for a good standard of refereeing. #disgrace #gaa #tippvclare
