A 'legends' soccer match between Liverpool and the Republic of Ireland in aid of Sean Cox will take place at the Aviva Stadium on Friday, April 12.

There will also be a gala dinner with all the proceeds raised from the event going to the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust. The former St Peter's, Dunboyne GAA chairman is continuing his recovery at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire from the serious brain injuries he sustained in an unprovoked assault outside Anfield before Liverpool's Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma last April.

Various fundraising events, including a benefit game between Dublin and Meath at Pairc Tailteann just before Christmas, have been organised to support the 53-year-old through his recovery since the attack with the Support Sean campaign having raised €1.1m to date.

Sean's wife Martina said in November that he was making good progress and could recognise family members but was still unable to talk, walk or sit up without help.
