Mount Leinster Rangers went into last Sunday’s Leinster club SHC clash without their manager Brendan Fennelly on the line as the Kilkenny native had been hospitalised before the game.

The Carlow champions put in a brave effort against Offaly’s Coolderry but lost out by six points at the final whistle.

Rangers selector Kieran Lucas told the Carlow Nationalist that the players gave it their all for the Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman.

“Brendan is in hospital at the moment,” Lucas said after the game. “He is doing well. He is in for some tests and hopefully he will be out in a day or two. Unfortunately he couldn’t be at the game.

“We were all doing our best to win a game for Brendan because he is such a passionate man about hurling. I think we played the best hurling we played all year.”
