Moorefield got the defence of their Leinster Club SFC title off to a winning start at Mullingar Shamrocks expense in Cusack Park today.
It finished 2-9 to 1-6 in favour of the Kildare champions who now advance to a last eight clash with Portlaoise which is fixed for November 11.
Two first-half goals from Adam Tyrrell sent the winners on the road to their six-point success.
They enjoyed a 2-5 to 0-4 cushion at the break.
The home side pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute through Dean Moore from the penalty spot after Kieran Gavin was fouled but Moorefield held on for a deserved victory.
