Carlow hurler Marty Kavanagh admits that spending the summer in San Francisco was not an easy decision to make.

Kavanagh will line out with the Tipperary club in San Fran this summer thus ruling him out of the Joe McDonagh Cup.

His absence will be sorely missed by the Barrowsiders as the St Mullins' clubman scored an impressive 4-31 during their successful NHL 2A campaign.

Nonetheless, Kavanagh states in the Carlow Nationalist that he did a lot of soul searching before coming to a decision.

"If I played with the county I wouldn't be able to go so I had to make a call on it. It wasn't an easy call," revealed Kavanagh.

"I hate leaving. There is a really good thing going on there in Carlow. This has been in my head for the last two months but I didn't want to regret not going in the coming years. This is my last chance to go."
