Dublin are set to be without All Star defender Michael Fitzsimons for Sunday's Allianz League meeting with Kerry after the Cuala man was unsuccessful in his appeal against a one-match ban last night.

Fitzsimons was red-carded in the closing stages of the All-Ireland champions' victory over Mayo in Castlebar after a mistimed challenge on opponent Aidan O'Shea.

Referee Paddy Neilan gave the corner-back his marching orders and his report afterwards had deemed the challenge 'dangerous'.

Last night saw Fitzsimons bring his case against the suspension to Croke Park's Central Hearings Committee, whom upheld the ban after finding the infraction proven.

The Dubs can still bring their case to the Central Appeals Committee in a bid to free up the 28-year-old for the clash with the league holders at HQ.
