Planning permission granted for Páirc Tailteann redevelopment

February 02, 2018

Meath GAA have plans to build a new 21,000 all-seater stadium at Pairc Tailteann.

Meath GAA has received the green light to redevelop Páirc Tailteann into a 21,000 all-seater stadium.

Meath County Council has granted full planning permission for the ambitious project, the first phase of which is expected to see the construction of a new 4,000 capacity stand. The Navan venue hasn't had an upgrade since 1988 when the main terrace opposite the existing stand was developed.

Meath GAA issued a short statement today confirming the good news: "Coiste na Mí C.L.G. is happy to announce that planning permission for the redevelopment of Páirc Tailteann has been granted by Meath County Council.

"This is a massive opportunity for Meath GAA and all its supporters. We urge the people of Meath, our Supporters and Patrons everywhere to support us in this venture as it will be of tremendous benefit to all in the GAA and it will boost the local economy."

Describing the announcement as "wonderful news", new Meath GAA chairman Peter O'Halloran believes that the decision to hold an Open Day last November ensured that the planning process went smoothly.

"It's a massive day for the GAA in Meath. There's always the possibility of objections, but a lot of questions were answered at our Open Day and the way is clear now to start the project and look for tenders," he told hoganstand.com.

"The hard work starts now. We will be counting on the support of Croke Park and all our partons when it comes to fundraising. Our infrastuctural committee, led by Noel Dempsey, Liam Mulvihill and our Operations Manager Seamus Kenny, deserve huge praise for getting the project this far, as do our former chairman Conor Tormey, former secretary Francis Flynn and current treasurer Jim Mullery."

The Drumconrath clubman expects the first phase to cost in the region of €10 million to complete.

"We're going to tackle it in phases. We're not going to over-extend ourselves" he continued.

"The first phase will see the construction of a 4,000-seater stand and our floodlights being put back up. We won't know until we speak to the contractors how long the overall project will take.

"I want to stress that the clubs will be consulted at every stage. They are the county committee at the end of the day."
