Donegal are likely to be without Leo McLoone for their National League opener against Kerry in four weeks' time.
Tir Chonaill boss Declan Bonner confirmed that McLoone, who has returned to the set-up after opting out this past season, is in a race against time to be fit for the trip to Killarney on January 28th.
The Naomh Conaill man joins team captain Michael Murphy, Frank McGlynn, Neil McGee and Paddy McGrath - with the latter not due back until March - in the list of absentees for the visit to the Kingdom next month.
"Leo is making good progress. He had a problem and he got it sorted and is close to being ready for the start of the league," Bonner told the Irish Independent.
"But with the league starting a week earlier this year, the first game may come a week or two too soon for Leo."
