Croke Park Commercial Manager Peter McKenna says he could never get behind the idea of replacing the stadium's name with a title sponsor.

The GAA's outgoing Director General Paraic Duffy recently ruled out the possibility of a title sponsor for the Association's headquarters.

McKenna, meanwhile, says he might push for naming rights if he were Stadium Manager of a Premier League club, but reckons changing Croker's name would be "grossly disrespectful".

"It's a value thing. It can never be all about money. That seems to be counter to what my job is," McKenna is quoted saying by the Irish Daily Star.

"Croke Park is named after Archbishop Croke and to name it anything other than that would be grossly disrespectful. Naming rights I think are not the way for us to go forward as an organisation, particularly for our national stadium at Croke Park."

He continued: "There are risks to it as well. Remember, there were four Enron stadiums in the US. When Enron crashed all those stadiums had to go through massive rebranding and repositioning.

"Could we imagine if there was a stadium called the Anglo-Irish bank stadium - where would they sit on the back of that?"
