Morris, Seamus
August 30, 2007
The Longstone community was plunged into mourning by the death of one of its best loved residents Seamus (The Duke) Morris who had lived there for the past 30 years.
Originally from the Loughgall area his home was at 28 Drumann Park.
married to Bea, the former Miss Devlin, from Coalisland he is survived by his two daughters Danielle and Cathy-Ann and son Kevin.
Also left to mourn his sad loss are his sisters Mary and Nan and large family circle.
From the heart of the apple growing country, Seamus may have come to live in the city, but remained a countryman at heart.
He was a devoted follower of the GAA and played for Collegeland O'Rahilly's who won this year's county junior final a few days prior to his death on August 16.
His son Kevin is a well known Armagh Harps footballer and was a member of the 2004 county U21 squad that won the All-Ireland final. Seamus was very proud of his son's achievements and attended all the Harps' matches.
He was also a fervent county fan and he certainly enjoyed the past decade and seeing the Sam Maguire come, firstly, to Armagh and then Tyrone, the birthplace of his loving wife and faithful companion, Bea.
Everybody knew The Duke for he was a character with a droll sense of humour and took life in his stride. He was good natured and highly respected by all his neighbours and friends. Central to his whole life was his family whom he adored. Great is their loss but countless the cherished memories they will hold of him.
He had been experiencing rather indifferent health over the past number of years and had a number of major operations, yet the suddenness of his death came as a great shock to all.
The large turnout for his funeral clearly showed just how much he was thought of. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh and burial took place in St Patrick's Cemetery.
He will be remembered not least for his inimitable smile.
To his sorrowing wife and family and extended family circle heartfelt sympathy is extended.
