Abuse upsets Kernan

Armagh football boss Joe Kernan has vented his anger to the media about "disgusting" abuse meted out by a section of Laois fans to the Armagh camp during last Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final at Croke Park.

Kernan has expressed his annoyance to newspapers and radio journalists about the intimidating behaviour of a small section of Laois fans last weekend.

And the Armagh boss says that if such action re-occurs, GAA chiefs should seriously consider segregating fans around the area of the respective dug-outs at Croker.

He said if supporters weren't able to mix the imposition of segregation "would be dreadful" but ultimately necessary to avoid trouble.
"I was shocked by the vulgarity and the level of venom directed at us.
"It was absolutely disgusting.

"I've been involved in this game a long time and I'm not exactly a shrinking violet but I was shocked.

"A friend of mine and his family who were in the Hogan Stand asked to be moved because they couldn't put up with what was being said.

"Fair play to a steward - he found them different seats, but the fact that they had to move is a sad commentary on the way things are going.
"The danger is that if if continues, it will create a very nasty atmosphere on the stands and terraces, which is the last thing we want.

"The fact that the GAA supporters have always been able to mix and mingle before, during and after games is something that we should be proud of and it would be dreadful if anything were allowed to interfere with that," Kernan added.
