Won intermediate championship 1969. Won first ever senior title in 1990. Play in green and white hoops (Celtic colours). Your average closely knit club THERE IS QUITE A BIT OF CLUB RIVALRY IN LURGAN. WHO ARE THE OTHER CLUBS IN YOUR TOWN AND HOW STRONG ARE THEY? Clan na Gael, St. Peters, Wolfe Tones, St. Pauls, Clann Eireann. Lots of rivalry here, especially from the Clans. Remember their great team of the '70s RECENTLY ONE OF THE BEST FORWARDS IN THE COUNTRY, DAMIEN CASSIDY OF DERRY, TRANSFERRED TO YOUR CLUB. HAS HE MADE AN IMPACT? Damien has been a great boost to the club. He will certainly make a few defenders take notice this year. Glad he's playing with us HOW DO YOU VIEW TEAM BOSS, JIM MCCORRY? Jim knows his stuff. Straight and honest, but when necessary can be tough. Just like when he was playing ARMAGH ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR FANTASTIC SUPPORT. WHAT DO YOU AND THE OTHER PLAYERS THINK OF THEM? Well, against Down we will be replying on them a lot. Armagh support in good voice is worth 4 points to us ALL THE FOOTBALL TALK IN SOUTH EAST ULSTER AT THE MOMENT CONCERNS THE BIG ARMAGH-DOWN CHAMPIONSHIP CLASH. CAN THE ORCHARD MEN GET THE BETTER OF THE OULD ENEMY? Yes, the big day is coming closer. It will be hard for us, but harder for Down. Last year the game was built up too much. Hopefully, this year we will come out on top ARE YOU PERSONALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE GAME: Yes. The championship is something special. When you play Down as reigning All-Ireland champions it makes it very special CAN ARMAGH THEN DO A DOWN AND GO THE ENTIRE WAY? Well, one game at a time. Let's get past Down first Taken from Hogan Stand magazine 27th March 1992 Vol 2 No 48
