Armagh assistant manager Brendan Hughes has explained the dramatic call-up of Ciaron O'Hanlon.

The Orchard County management threw something of a curveball last night when including the Bessbrook youngster at centre forward in their XV for Sunday's Ulster SFC preliminary-round meeting with Cavan.

"Ciaron was tied up all year with St Paul's, Bessbrook. Because of that, he wasn't available to us," Hughes reveals in The Irish News.

"Ciaron is an excellent young footballer. He is still 18 - but if you're good enough, you're old enough.

"At the start of the year when we came together as a management team, we looked for a new team.

"We looked for a young team, a fast team, an exciting team and we feel that this team is going out on Sunday with all of the attributes that we are looking for in the group.

"We are happy with the team we have picked and the team is going well in training. The players are picked on form and we are going to Cavan full of confidence."
