Armagh beaten by Kerry in the 1953 All Ireland Final

A member of the storied Kernan clan of Crossmaglen, Frank started in the half back line in the Armagh side which lost to Kerry in the 1953 All-Ireland final.
That was the first occasion the Orchard County would reach the showpiece occasion, and they would not get back to All-Ireland final day until 1977 when Joe was one of the star men.
He may have been on the losing side against the Kingdom but by 1953 Frank already had an All-Ireland medal in his back pocket having helped Armagh to its first minor title in 1949. That would be the only minor All-Ireland the county would win until the class of 2009.
Frank Kernan was 76 when he died at his home on Friday.
