NFL 3: Cunningham inspires Saffrons
March 14, 2010
Paddy Cunningham scored 0-9 as Antrim made it four wins from four in Division 3 of the NFL with a hard-earned victory over Roscommon at Hyde Park.
Antrim 0-16
Roscommon 0-14
In a game which the visitors always looked like winning, both sides finished with 14 players following second yellow cards for Antrim's Dermot McCann and Roscommon's David Casey in the 24th and 63rd minutes respectively.
Antrim made full use of wind advantage to race into a five-point lead after 12 minutes and they led by three at half-time. On the restart, Kieran Close extended the Saffrons' advantage to four points, but strong Roscommon pressure over the next 10 minutes yielded just two points from frees by Donie Shine, who converted nine frees in all and was once again Roscommon's only real scoring threat.
A more economical Antrim side notched up three points in two minutes from Cunningham (two) and James Loughrey, and were five points clear with four minutes remaining. Roscommon grabbed the last three scores, but it wasn't enough to save them from another defeat.
