McKeever completes AFL switch

Antrim's Niall McKeever
Antrim midfielder Niall McKeever has signed a professional contract with AFL club Brisbane Lions after weeks of speculation surrounded the youngster with a move 'Down Under'. The 20-year-old's signature was understood to be wanted by a number of AFL clubs, and he had been offered a contract by the Lions last month after impressing in two trials. However, the UUJ student wished to concentrate solely on his county's Ulster SFC opener against Donegal first and foremost, and has now joined the Lions on a two-year international rookie contract. McKeever made his senior championship debut just ten days ago for the Saffrons, and is expected to line-out again at centre-field this Saturday against Cavan in Clones, where Liam Bradley's side will look to bring the county to a first Ulster SFC final appearance in 39 years. He will fly out to Australia in November to commence his two-year contract.
