Watch: Nugent's Christy Ring-esque overhead strike lit up McGurk Cup final

January 05, 2020

Antrim's Domhnall Nugent performed a spectacular overhead pull goal in the McGurk Cup final against Down - much like the legendary Christy Ring!

The overhead pull is a dying art in hurling, but Antrim's Domhnall Nugent did his best to bring it back into fashion with this spectacular effort in last night's McGurk Cup final against Down at The Dub.

Taking a leaf out of the legendary Christy Ring's book, the big full forward first-timed from a high ball in and shot narrowly wide as Darren Gleeson claimed his first piece of silverware as Antrim manager, while qualifying for the Kehoe Cup final against Offaly in the process.

"I like to try different wee things, Darren is all for that," Nugent said in an interview with Jerome Quinn.

"He says go and express yourself on the pitch and I'm all for that. A lot of players are now robotic whenever they go out and play so I like to go out and express myself and try and put on a wee bit of a show."

Here's Nugent's spectacular overhead strike against Down...
