Antrim hurling captain Conor McCann is in a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s crunch Joe McDonagh Cup clash with Westmeath.

Victory at Dunloy would virtually assure the Glensmen of a place in the second-tier decider and would also secure them a preliminary quarter-final place in the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

McCann missed last weekend’s defeat of Offaly at Tullamore but could be ready for action in four days’ time:

“I’m just hoping my recovery goes well this week,” the Creggan Kickhams clubman told The Irish News. “It’s nothing serious but the games come at you quickly in the Joe McDonagh. I’ll know closer to the weekend how my knee is.”
