CJ: I haven't retired

Antrim's CJ McGourty celebrates after scoring a goal

CJ McGourty has refused to rule out the prospect of playing for Antrim again.

Many assumed that the 30-year-old had retired after he was dropped from the Antrim football panel during last year’s Allianz League, but the talented forward says that isn’t the case and that he would be open to an invitation from either the county football or hurling managements after St Gall’s All-Ireland club IHC campaign ends.

“I never said I was retired or that I wouldn’t go back and play for the county,” McGourty told the Irish News ahead of tomorrow’s All-Ireland club IHC semi-final against Oranmore-Maree at Parnell Park.

“A lot of people have asked me would I go back to the football or hurling, but you have to be asked first. At the minute St Gall’s are my main focus and we’ve a massive task ahead of us. But, after that, I’ll see what phone calls come and if there’s none, I’ll happily work away with the club.”
