Niall Morgan's season is over - big blow to Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First)

Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old Edendork clubman damaged ligaments in his knee during a club league match on Sunday and was told yesterday that he will have to undergo corrective surgery, which means his season is over.

Morgan, who lines out at midfield for his club, landed awkwardly after making a catch and a scan revealed lateral collateral ligament damage in his left knee.

Since being headhunted by manager Mickey Harte over the winter, the former Dungannon Swifts custodian had made a massive impression with the O'Neill County during his first season, kicking 0-18 from placed balls during the national league.

But his championship campaign has ended after just one match - last month's defeat to Donegal in Ballybofey.

"I'm looking to next season now and staying positive," Morgan says in The Irish News. "There's nothing else you can do.

"It's a different sort of a challenge for me. It's probably going to be a personal challenge for me to get back to where I was at this year.

"All I can do is hope for the best, work hard and try to get recovered as quickly as I can without any more setbacks."

All the best to him in his recovery

A big blow to Tyrone so early in their campaign

This fella is one of the best goal keepers I've seen in GAA circles for quite a while

His long distance frees were a major part of Tyrone's game plan throughout the league

It was plain to see just how important it was in the league final against Dublin

What a performance that was... Tyrone have lost a serious asset

Big blow alright, turning into a top top keeper and although he had a stinker from placed balls against Donegal his frees and 45's will be sorely missed for Tyrone this summer.
Pascal...Pascal....Pascal is the chant we will be hearing from the hill if we meet later on down the road :-)

'He's no Stephen Cluxton, the way he let the Donegal crowd rialling him up get to him the last day'!.....'Pity though, cos he could have been the next Stephen Cluxton'!

Cluxton's probably a bit fortunate Dublin play all their championship games in Croke Park. It can't hurt anyway.

Good kickouts especially is a loss to Tyrone. And injured in a club game again. That seems to happen more in Tyrone/Derry than for example Kerry.

not a major blow for tyrone...tyrone have good cover in mcconnell, and packie is a much better shot stopper than morgan especially in one on one situations..of course morgan's ability to kick 2-3 long range frees is a blow especially against teams like donegal and dublin and kerry who tend to foul deliberately outside the 45

Good keeper & a bit of a character but badly found out against Donegal when he let the crowd & the Donegal players get to him. Every other county would have targeted him the same way so McConnon won't weaken Tyrone that much.

it's media nonsense to suggest morgan was put off by the crowd in ballybofey...most of the kicks were outside his range...he landed a superb 60 yard effort..only kickable one he missed was a 45..taking into account a sodden pitch and ball...hardly a surprise he missed those kicks..it's just lazy journalism to suggest he was knobbled on the day

I'm sorry but the last couple of efforts were way off target & the last one was miles out, if they were outside his range then why was he taking them? He's just another in a long line of young fellas who believed the hype about himself & it will be interesting to watch his demenaour when/if he gets back.

GateKeeper,
Normal service will soon be resumed but I will admit to being really surprised & annoyed by the attitude to sthe Lacey incident from Tyrone posters. I do not for a minute believe that any sanction has been imposed and even if it was what use is it if nobody knows his name? This fecker's name, details & mug should be in Gaelic Life, Tyrone Constitution, Donegal Democrat etc etc. Only if we man up to this sort of behaviour will we be in a position to sneer at rugby & soccer who would have sorted this character out pronto.
As I say this has gotten under my skin a bit but I'm sure a good nights sleep will sort me out.
Off to Connemara tomorrow for a couple of days R & R with Mrs Muckrosshead. No laptop allowed so I am getting my retaliation in before I go!!!!
