This match is in Newbridge, I wonder will Kildare spot anymore Cavan players they fancy.

Wishing the Juniors all the best tonight. They have come through a tough test against Longford which should have them at the right pace for tonight. A title, any title, even a Leinster title for that matter, would be most welcome as we approach a very important weekend.

Congrats to all involved with the Juniors last night, a much needed win in good style. Apart from the opening 10 mins of each half, we were well on top, playing the better football. On both occasions Declan McKiernan's leadership got us into the game with some determined fielding and marvellous long range scores. It was good to see the Mgnt team taking decisive action early on to correct our poor return up front. Paul O'Connor's introduction turned the game for us.

Daniel Flynn caused a lot of problems for Barry Watters in the first quarter but was well marshalled by Joshua Hayes in the second quarter. Kildare's decision to leave Flynn as a holding mid-fielder for the entire second half was baffling considering the threat he posed in the first half.

It was great to see that the Cavan skill levels were much superior. Kildare dropped the ball at key moments during waves of attacks throughout the game. They were a power-based team looking to burst their way through on goal and it was a terrific display by the whole defence to keep our net intact.

Martin Dunne was again the focus of our attack and his link play with McClarey brought us the crucial first half goal. Martin Reilly played another good game but he was deployed a bit too deep.

Looking back on the Leinster campaign, you have to feel sorry for Longford. We basically robbed them at the death and they were a much better team than Kildare.

On a side issue, I usually contribute to local fund-raisers when I go to away matches but made an exception when asked to buy a ticket for Club Kildare within the ground. Bad enough that they took one of our players without having the cheek to ask us to fund it.

So now we're the Ulster County representing Leinster preparing to face the Munster Champions. Don't you just love the GAA!

Cracking, spirited, uplifting performance all round! But I would question the merits of buying a 27 page 'match programme' with 24 pages of ads, more like the little red book with two team sheets stuck in the middle............no matter BREFFNI ABU!
