Erin's Own reach Cork SHC decider

October 09, 2006
Erin's Own booked their place in the Cork SHC final following a 1-11 to 0-8 victory over Sarsfields, but they will have to wait at least another week before finding out who their opponents in the decider will be. The second of Sunday's semi-final double-bill, featuring great rivals Newtownshandrum and Cloyne, was abandoned after just 11 minutes because of a waterlogged Pairc Ui Chaoimh pitch. Cloyne were leading by 0-2 to 0-1 at the time. Referee Diarmuid Kirwan was left with no alternative but to call a halt to proceedings following hours of incessant rain. The game was already in serious doubt after players from Erin's Own and Sarsfields had experienced obvious difficulties in the first semi-final. Sarsfields led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval, but Erin's Own never looked back after Mark O'Connor scored the only goal with a one-handed strike 20 seconds after the restart.
