Cavan defender Padraig Faulkner is determined to be part of the first team to win the Tailteann Cup.

The Breffni County will face neighbours Westmeath on Saturday at Croke Park in the inaugural final which comes with the guarantee of Sam Maguire football for the winner next year.

“We, as Cavan, want to make history by being the first team to win it,” the Kingscourt clubman told gaa.ie

“We want teams to look back and say, ‘Well, that’s what Cavan did to get to where they are now’ so it’s something we really want to progress in.'

“I'm excited to see how far the stepping stone of the Tailteann Cup might bring us next year if we get over Westmeath on Saturday.

“I'm looking forward to the journey."
