Today’s All-Ireland senior hurling championship display by Clare against Kilkenny goes down as “a total malfunction” for former Banner County defender Anthony Daly.

Brian Lohan’s side went down to the Cats on a 2-26 to 0-20 score-line at Croke Park, where they trailed by 14 points at half-time and the game was well and truly up for them when Cian Kenny registered the Leinster champions’ second goal seven minutes into the resumption.

Speaking on The Saturday Game afterwards, Daly said it was no surprise to see Kilkenny taking advantage of their opponents’ below par performance with a ruthless showing at headquarters.

"A total malfunction today," said the two-time All-Ireland winning captain.

"For some reason. Maybe we left it in the Munster final...But this crowd, Kilkenny, when they're tuned in, when they're coming in underdogs for a day like this, and they start like they did, they'll usually put you away."
