Nine-time All-Ireland winner Jackie Tyrrell says Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy will have to find a way to blend youth with experience if the Premier County are to land Liam MacCarthy this summer.

All-Ireland champions Limerick welcome Tipp to the Gaelic Grounds tomorrow evening (throw-in 5.30pm) as the 2021 season finally gets underway with round one of the Allianz Hurling League.

Speaking on the RTE GAA podcast, Tyrrell says that Sheedy’s most important task will be trying to come up with a formula to successfully mix the county’s young stars with its seasoned campaigners.

"They have almost two pools of talent," said the former Kilkenny defender.

"One is an ageing pool that have a lot of miles on the clock, some of the greatest hurlers to ever come out of Tipperary – Seamus Callanan, Noel McGrath, Pádraic Maher, Brendan Maher – and then you have a pool at the other end, with this raft of U21s coming through that we haven't really seen.

"We've seen small snippets of Paddy Cadell, Robert Byrne and Jake Morris, but they haven't really been exposed to enough high-level performance games to make any real examination of them.

"So how will he marry the two of them?

"For Tipperary to win an All-Ireland this year they'll need a bit of both."
