Long-serving Kildare stalwart John Doran has brought the curtain down on his inter-county hurling career.

The Kildare GAA Games Development Administrator took to Twitter this evening to announce his retirement after 14 seasons playing for the Lilywhites.

He said: "After 14 fantastic years the time has come to step away from the Kildare senior hurling team."

"It was an honour and a privilege to wear the white jersey and I wish all the current panel and management the very best for the future. Cill Dara abú"

Doran signed off in style and on a high note by winning his third Christy Ring Cup medal last Saturday week when helping Kildare to victory against Down at Croke Park.
