Tadhg Kennelly is hoping his fourth Europe Talent Combine will unearth the AFL's next big Irish star.
The Listowel native, who is the only man to have won All-Ireland and AFL Premiership medals, has stayed on in Ireland after the International Rules series to conduct Australian Rules trials this weekend at DCU. Twenty hopefuls, including Kerry legend Pat Spillane's son Pat Jnr, 2014 Kilkenny All-Ireland minor hurling winning captain Darragh Joyce, Dublin's Donal McIlghorm and Westmeath's Ray Connellan - who was a standby player for last month's International Rules Test - will attend.
"I've organised for 20 of Ireland's best 18, 19 and 20-year-olds, hopefully to try and give them an opportunity to go and play in Australia," the AFL talent coordinator said.
Kennelly hasn't been put off by the high failure rate among young Irish players with AFL clubs in recent years.
"A lot of these boys have actually had links with AFL clubs and have either decided not to go, or stay at home, or it hasn't worked out for some reason," he added.
