Longford will be without key defender Peter Foy for next Sunday's Leinster SFC first round clash with Wicklow in Aughrim.
The Longford Slashers clubman broke his ankle in a recent club match and is expected to miss most of the O'Farrell County's championship campaign as a result.
"It is unfortunate for Peter, but the main thing is for him to make a full recovery and get back to action," Longford manager Glenn Ryan explained to the Irish Examiner.
Ryan is hoping Longford can put behind them the disappointment of relegation from Division 2 of the Allianz Football League with a return to winning ways against Harry Murphy's men.
"We played Carlow and Offaly and scored tight wins over them. The league campaign was tough and was draining on everyone, but that's behind us now and we are looking forward to Sunday.
"We know it will be tough going to Aughrim, but there has been a big effort since the league and we feel we are in with a good chance."
