Offaly awards for Dooley and McNamee

December 15, 2010

Offaly's Shane Dooley
Shane Dooley and Niall McNamee have been chosen as Offaly senior hurler and footballer of the year respectively.

The pair have been rewarded for their outstanding form at club and county level in 2010. Despite his club Tullamore's defeat to Coolderry in this year's county hurling decider, there won't be too many complaints about Dooley's selection as hurler of the year, while McNamee was an obvious choice for the football version after his brilliant displays for Rhode in their march to the Leinster club final against Dublin's Kilmacud Crokes, which has been postponed to January 23.

The annual awards were selected by a panel of local sports reporters and will be presented in Tullamore's Bridge House Hotel next month.

A highlight of the night will be the induction of two former county stars into the prestigious Hall of Fame. This year's inductees will be Greg Hughes in football and Paddy Molloy in hurling.

Cloghan man Hughes played in Offaly's 1960 and '69 All-Ireland football final defeats to Down and Kerry respectively, while Drumcullen clubman Molloy was the Faithful County's top hurler during the same period when the midlanders were still seeking a breakthrough at provincial and All-Ireland level.
